Welcome to Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. This is a game played in writing: scenes happen in the in-character section, a post at a time, and nobody has to be online at the same time as anybody else.

Where you are
The in-character section has a pinned thread called The map so far. It shows what the party itself has seen: anywhere nobody has been is not in the picture, and it is visible to members of this campaign only.
Where to ask
Here, in this section. Questions about a scene in progress go here too rather than into the scene itself — the in-character section is kept for the story, which is what makes it readable later.
Posting in an in-character section
- Everything there is the story. Write as your character, in prose, in their voice. Questions, planning, scheduling and anything addressed to a person rather than a character belong in the out-of-character section.
- Your character only knows what your character knows. You will read things your character was not there for — another party's scene, a game master's aside, something said out of character. Acting on it is the one habit that spoils a game like this fastest, and nobody can tell you did it except you.
- Leave room for the other people. Write your character's actions and words, not anybody else's, and not the outcome of what you attempted.
To join, in this order
- Have a forum account. If you are reading this you may already be signed in; if not, register here. This is the account your posts will be under.
- Join the Discord server — invite. Scenes are mirrored both ways, so you can read and reply from either side. This step is optional if you would rather only use the forum.
- Link the two accounts. Open Your Discord link and earlier forum posts from the companion portal and press Link my Discord account. It asks Discord for your account identity only — not your email, and not a list of your servers. Until this is done, anything you write in Discord arrives here under a placeholder name.
- Open Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden — here. You will need an account on that service; this forum cannot make one for you.
- Make a character. A private conversation will arrive for you with the rules, the links and your ability scores — that is where to ask anything about it, rather than here. The same rules are pinned in the Characters section for reference, and that is where the finished sheet goes.
- The character builder — open it.
